the art of the album.

yesterday i finally went to that exhibition at oxo tower. it sows artworks by such noble designers as storm thorgerson, peter blake, richard evans, aubrey rowell and others. it's nice that the enlarged versions are shown. they are all signed by authors and there is some information about the idea and creation process of each work. you could also buy yourself some nice limited edition print with authors sign and even a frame if you have spare 500 quid or much more (depends on your tastes)).

evolving english.

today i visited an exhibition evolving english @ british library. i went there mostly because of my interest in printing and typography. but the exhibition turned out to be very interesting itself.
it's a great example of well organized research - in quite a small space presented a wide range of information. exhibition shows us the history of english language, its development, covers written, spoken and even sign language! there are loads of great examples of books of different times. lots of audio materials presented as well.
this is the beowulf - poem written between 8th and 11th century in old english.
(see the video inside. it's embedded with autoplay and is really annoying because of that)
19th century poster with nice typography!
h-dropping in punch 27 october 1855.
bbc broadcast english – advice on pronunciation –1929.
the sun - 4 may 1982.

accents, slang, swearing, conversations, dictionaries, audiobooks, radio recordings, cultural and historical influences – this exhibition is huge and very interesting! must see!

brighton pictures

brighton set on flickr.

blabla & birmingham.

vacation is almost over. i'm not very happy that i've written so few posts during the holidays. but i had a real good time and some major things happened during that period.
i visited 2 beautiful cities - birmingham and brighton. the second was kind of an old dream - wanted to see the sea in winter. it was really beautiful in there. i think i'll post some pictures here.
the day i went to birmingham the weather gone mad. it was sunny, rainy and snowy in one day. it was terribly cold, so i spent much time in the birmingham museum and art gallery.
i really enjoyed the collection. going to write a bit about some pieces soon.
here are some pictures from this trip.
nice damaged typography.
st. martin in a bull ring - beautiful church!
victoria square.
a bit of christmas!
loved this birds.

and here is my birmingham set on flickr if you're interested.
one day is definitely too short time for such big city as birmingham.
