marks & stencils

since last week i wanted to visit pictures on walls's exhibition of street few street artists including dran and banksy.
even if they are street artists there were plenty of nice works indoors!
[more about it inside]

the exhibition area divided into two spaces - the upper level for group show. it was a bit difficult to identify the author of work so the free "guide paper" was helpful.

most of works are very striking.

those reminded me of our collages)
this is the "insight" of the gallery window.

downstairs is the solo show of dran.

i was so impressed by his cardboard drawings.

there was one wall covered with "i have chalks" postcards, so i decided to participate and filled one as well.

mine is about the wall)

i really loved this exhibition. and my deep belief that the street art is the only worth thing on contemporary art scene increased even more.

and sure the name of the show is very clever!

nice site to kill time.

http://www.thisiscollate.com/

5 design agencies i'd love to work for.

here you go!
the first one will be barnbrook. i've found out about them nearly a year ago and i'm deeply impressed by their works. it's a huge agency with wide range of works.
here's their design for sydney's contemporary art festival.

[the others are inside]

the second one is mind design. it is an independent london based graphic design studio founded in 1999. their works are all very interesting, laconic and they pay great attention on typography.
this is their identity for marawa the amazing - international hula hoop star and performer.

and promotional brochure for circus.
the third – mainstudio. it is the amsterdam based design agency with interest in typography, magazines, identity, illustration and books.
mark magazine is their well known work.

aarnhem fashion biennale magazine.
forth – hawaii. it is a leading design agency, established in London in 2005 and is led by Paul McAnelly.
they are the agency created new identity for myspace.
and that's their work for mtv.
the last one is zolotogroup, which is actually collaboration of ostengruppe and a group of professional marketers. it's russian design group. i remember my first acquaintance with their works about 4 years ago on the golden bee's biannual exhibition in moscow. i think that they actually made a great progress in that period of time.
branding for short movies festival.

identity for snob magazine.

i've probably chosen too cool and famous firms, but they're really my favorites. i'll try to search for smaller design agencies on holidays and will put on blog the most notable ones.

carry on project work.

i'd like to write a bit about my last few days.
unfortunately nothing new - i was working on my pdf file & collages. last few pages are going too slow - i'm not satisfied with the layout of one of them so i'm trying and trying and trying, it upsets me a bit. + i'm not sure how to integrate images of our group work in my pdf, cause i really like what we've done, but it doesn't fit the other content...
collages are going quite well, may be i'll post few more pics later.
i wanted to show you one thing that really helped me in organizing my project.

i made this before i started pdf. i was sitting in front of the blank screen and didn't know where to begin. so i decided to summarize all my research and thoughts on one surface. i mean, i had it all in my sketchbook but when i looked through separated pages i just couldn't put it together in my head.
now i'm thinking of buying lots of a1 paper like we use in our studio, to cover my walls with it for the next project!))
speaking about next project... i've chosen the flatland brief. i liked it so much! i'm a bit concerned about my knowledge on subject, i mean i really love typography but the competition is huge. but i'm going to work on it on holidays!
and a couple of pics that i took today's coldcold morning. [i've bought a heater today!! sooo happy!]

first term is almost finished.

it's been a long time. seems like I start every post with those words)
but I had a hard time last week writing my libertines [vct] essay, then being ill and doing project after my super quick recovery!
I think that I'm quite happy with the result so far. planning to finish collages in a couple of days, as well as my final pdf. i have some nice ideas about the design of outcome itself.
it's a pity that our today's ppd class was canceled, but on the other hand we really got time to work on our project and to fill in blogs)
I've been to library today, looked through some books and magazines. and found one with quite interesting layout. i have a thing about scratched randomly looking designs.
i really like the way illustration fits cover.

[and the rest of it inside]

interesting way to place pictures on page.
hand writing is practically always enlivens picture.
the text could be read on other side of page through paper against the light.
i love the second one with parakeet. i love parakeets actually.

work in progress.

i promised to show some of my collages, here they are.
i'm actually enjoying myself))

roa

i really do like roa's paintings in the streets. here's the new video of him, painting the big bird on brick lane! the video is a teaser for a documentary about bl & art.

friday sessions.

the last thing i wanted to write about was yesterday's morning workshop with darren and david, we continued working in our project groups and made a visual research on every part of our brief. our presentation and speech were not well organized, because we ran out of time. time management is a really important and tough to learn thing.
so our task for the next tuesday is to make the same kind of work on our own. it's a good one but not that simple, cause we've used practically all the pics i've found on the internet on the "self education" theme. but i'll try my best.
in the afternoon we had an induction illustrator lecture with jo.

ok go new vid.

ok go have been always doing a great stuff, the last video wasn't exception -

And here is the rest of it

open shop

on wednesday i went on an open shop, which was a part of the internet week. we had really great time in 5 different creative agencies! it was really a great opportunity to get to know how are the agencies looking from the insight! all the speakers were very kind to tell us about their ways of creating working process. one of the most interesting things was that they are doing the same thing but their approaches are various! despite of this there were some common points which all the speakers were saying. the first one was the necessity of communication and collaboration! it's such a great idea which was repeated for the last month of studies by our tutors! and that is so contrast to the way of working i have had for almost 4 years in my old university in russia.
the second thing was - you need to find some thing that you're most interested in, and work hard on it. hard working and devotion to your work are the key words in every undertaking. you need to be really passionate about what you're doing.
the reflection of your work and your own thoughts on it is a really important thing as well. as well as your ability of presenting yourself.
we've been to abnormaly, naked, lbi, poke, mother, poke again & attended the brilliant design lecture at the end.
the event i've been taking a part in was a "creative road" so there were not only design students but advertising people as well. it was quite interesting to hear the questions they've been asking. so i can say with certainty that the open shop was useful not only for my professional, but for personal development as well!
i wish there were more of events like this one!
mindblowing view out of naked's studio.
